My monstera plant (also known as “cheese plant”) was getting a bit overgrown. I had to trim it back before it took over our living room! I couldn’t bring myself to throw away its freshly trimmed leaves so I decided to save a few. I put some in water for propagation, and then I saved one to use for these monstera leaf paintings.
I recently taught a workshop on block printing which is where this project idea came from. It’s so fun and easy to use a stamp to create a pattern, I wanted to see if these cheese plant leaves would have the same effect. As it turns out, the leaf worked pretty well! I can see this being a great craft for kids or a girls’ night. Let’s get to making!

Supplies:
Monstera/cheese plant leaf
Acrylic paint
Paintbrush
Canvas
Step one: Trim a leaf from your monstera plant, or use an artificial one.
Step two: Use a paintbrush to coat the leaf with a light layer of paint.
Step three: Test the leaf by pressing it on a scrap piece of paper. Use your hand to smooth the entire leaf to the canvas. You will want to reapply paint to the leaf in between each application.
Step four: Once you have the technique down, it’s time to paint on the canvas. Reapply a layer of paint to your leaf and start creating your pattern!
