I have to say pompoms and tassels are the most versatile of the new craft trends! I have been able to use them to decorate baskets as well as purses and now I have found a way to make an adorable Halloween decoration with this pumpkin pompom and ghost tassel garland!
I get pretty excited every time I pass by this new Halloween decoration piece! I’m even more excited to share with you how easy it is to make.
This kid-friendly project only takes a few steps and a handful of inexpensive supplies! Let’s get to making!
Supplies needed for DIY pumpkin and ghost garland:
Orange and white yarn
2 green pipe cleaners
90mm pompom maker (if you don’t have one, see my tutorial here on how to make a pompom with cardboard)
1/2 in Foam balls
Step one: Use the orange yarn to make five pumpkin pompoms with your pompom maker. Leave two long pieces of yarn to tie the pompoms together, and then trim any stray yarn over a trash can.
Step two: Cut the pipe cleaners into inch and a half pieces then wrap each piece around your pinky to create a spiral. Stretch the spiral out a little bit then glue it to the top of the pumpkin, making sure the two long pieces of yarn are still available to tie to the twine.
Step three: Cut the cardboard into a 6-inch long piece. Then wrap the yarn vertically about 50 times. Cut a separate piece of yarn about five inches long. Then tie the extra piece towards the top of the tassel. Snip the bottom of the tassel. Make five tassels.
Step four: Open the tassel so it lays flat, then place a foam ball near the top of the tassel where the tie has been placed. Fold the tassel back down. Cut a string about four inches long and place a tie right under the foam ball to create a head for the ghost.
Step five: Use the hot glue gun to attach the eyes. Then paint a mouth with the black paint.
Step six: Attach the pumpkins and ghosts to the twine. Hang up!
