Squiggly black squid ink pasta is the perfect base for a spooky Halloween inspired dinner. This dark black pasta gets its color from the ink of a squid or a cuttlefish. However, it tastes nothing like seafood; it’s quite the opposite actually. Its flavor is very similar to regular pasta, which is fantastic and leaves lots of room to get creative with sauces.
Because this dish draws its inspiration from the season, our sauce is filled with beautiful red and yellow tomatoes, red onions and bright green basil, all colors that help to make our pasta extra beautiful and creepy!
Making the sauce is a fairly simple process. We first start by chopping and sautéing the vegetables in butter, which adds a level of decadence. Then simply add white wine and chicken stock. I bought my squid ink pasta dry and boiled it like regular spaghetti; it’s super easy.
Your whole dish comes together in about 30 minutes! Consider making it on Halloween before taking the little ones out Trick-or-Treating – you could totally say it’s witch’s hair! Or take this dish to your next holiday party, it’s definitely elegant enough to impress your friends and family!
I hope you enjoy this Halloween squid ink pasta dish as much as we did.
