Gemstones and crystals are definitely back in style. I, for one, couldn’t be happier about it! These natural beauties are used for more than just decoration; they can also be used for beauty!
For example, jade and rose quartz are used to make face rollers. By rolling the cool stone tool across your face you can eliminate puffiness and help flush your lymphatic system. Crushed gemstones can also be found in face masks, exfoliators, body mists, and this amethyst infused gem body oil.
I was inspired to make something that harnesses the power of crystals! So I started doing my research. Until this year, I didn’t have much knowledge in the ways in which crystals can be used. However, as my collection of pretty stones grew, I decided I had to find out more about them!
So I started doing some reading.
My favorite book thus far is Crystal Muse by Heather Askinosie. It is said that crystals can be therapeutic in many ways, from anti-anxiety to happiness. Amethyst, for example, is used to help heal physical ailments and calm the mind, which I thought sounded perfect for this beauty DIY! What better way to give crystals a try than to make an amethyst infused gem body oil?
I used a couple of my favorite moisturizing body oils for this blend. Sweet almond oil contains vitamin E, vitamin A, and fatty acids that benefit the skin. Vitamin E is a tough antioxidant that will help protect against UV radiation. It does a great job of keeping your skin cells healthy, and minimizing fine lines. Vitamin A is acne’s worst enemy. It helps clean out pores and reduce blackheads. And the fatty acids contained in sweet almond oil provide outstanding moisturizing benefits and help heal the skin.
The next oil I used was jojoba, also loaded with vitamins A and E! Though referred to as an oil, jojoba is actually a wax that comes from the seed of the jojoba plant. It contains acne fighting and anti-inflammatory properties. It also helps dry skin by creating a barrier that locks in moisture.
Then I added pure vitamin E as an extra preservative to stretch the shelf life of our oil.
Since our gemstone is amethyst, a calming stone, lavender essential oil was the obvious next choice. Let’s get to making!
Supplies:
Jojoba oil (similar one here)
Vial
Letter stickers
Rubbing alcohol
Step one: Wash the amethyst stones with soap and water, then pat dry.
Step two: Using a 1:1 ratio, fill the vial up with jojoba oil to just under the halfway point. Then pour in the almond oil until the vial is just under the full mark.
Step three: Add a couple drops of vitamin E, about 10-20 drops of lavender essential oil, and a few of the amethyst stones to the mixture. Put the cap on and shake to combine your mixture.
Step four: Clean off the vial with rubbing alcohol, then decorate with letter stickers.
I hope you enjoyed this DIY amethyst infused gem body oil tutorial. Try experimenting with different stones and scent combinations. I would love to hear what you come up with! Don’t forget to follow me on Pinterest for crafty inspiration!
