I love statement earrings! I love anything that has the power to set off a messy bun and make it look like I give a damn. (When the truth is, I haven’t washed my hair in three days and this look is brought to you by the power of dry shampoo.)
I just have one problem. These gorgeous heavy earrings really weigh my ears down, which makes them painful to wear. So I came up with a crafty solution and made a stylish pair of statement earrings using lightweight material.
I wore these puppies all day, and forgot I had them on! Victory is ours friends, all thanks to craft foam. The amount of different designs you can create using this stuff is seriously endless. Plus, this material is very forgiving and easy to work with. If you make a mistake, a pair of sharp scissors is all you need to correct it. Let’s get to making!
Two sheets of craft foam
Medium jump rings
Step one: Using a pencil, draw a half circle and a U shape on a piece of construction paper, then cut out the stencils.
Step two: Using the stencils you made, trace two U shapes on one color of the craft foam. Then repeat this step on the second color with the half circle stencil. Cut out the shapes.
Step three: Using a toothpick, poke a hole through the center top and the center bottom of the half circles. Then poke a hole through the top of the U shapes.
Step four: Decorate with the paint pen, then let the shapes dry for 20 minutes.
Step five: Use the jewelry pliers to connect the earrings to the jump rings.
Step six: Glue the studs to the back of the half circles; let dry.
