Tyler and I have been wanting a place where we can post notes and appointments. I had plans of going to buy a cork board when I came across these cork wall panels at Michaels. They would work perfect for what we need, and the best part is that I could turn them into a DIY! I just taught a workshop this week where we made color block serving trays.
I love this crafting technique; it’s super approachable and easy to do. Not to mention, the different designs and color combinations you could make are endless! For these color block cork boards, I decided to go with earthy tones to complement the cork. Then I added simple geometric shapes by first applying washi tape to the boards to create a barrier, then painting with acrylics. They turned out beautiful and have a Scandinavian feel to them, which I love! Let’s get to making!
Supplies for DIY color block cork boards!
4.5mm Washi tape
Step one: Apply the washi tape to the cork boards in your desired pattern. I first added a piece of tape diagonally, then on a couple I added a piece vertically. Smooth the tape down with your fingers to avoid lifting. You may have to re-smooth the tape while you are painting.
Step two: Apply acrylic paint to the boards using a medium paint brush. Once the paint has dried, remove the washi tape from the boards and hang!
